iGA Istanbul Airport Becomes the First in the World to Launch Level 3 A-SMGCS Routing Service
iGA Istanbul Airport has taken a pioneering step in its digitalization strategy by becoming the first airport worldwide to implement the Level 3 Advanced Surface Movement Guidance and Control System (A-SMGCS) Routing Service. Fully compliant with Eurocontrol and Eurocae standards, the system enhances the safe movement of aircraft and ground vehicles while maximizing runway and taxiway capacity. The official launch was marked by a ceremony attended by senior representatives from DHMİ and the European Commission.
The system delivers clear benefits across the ecosystem: greater operational efficiency for airlines, shorter taxi times for guests, and reduced emissions contributing to environmental sustainability.
In operation since 2018 at Istanbul Airport, A-SMGCS covers four progressive levels—Surveillance (Level 1), Safety Support (Level 2), Routing (Level 3), and Guidance (Level 4). With the introduction of the Level 3 Routing Service, Istanbul Airport is achieving significant gains in operational efficiency, safety, and carbon reduction, setting a global benchmark for smart airport management.
