Information on Security and Baggage Screening Practices

 

All departing and transfer passengers traveling via Istanbul Airport and their baggage are scanned at security checkpoints to prevent prohibited items from letting inside the security restricted areas and aircraft.

The scanning methods carried out at the security check-points are conducted in accordance with the standards set out in the National Civil Aviation Security Program and its revisions, and the Istanbul Airport Security Program and its revision, as published by the Civil Aviation Directorate General, the Decisions of the Istanbul Airport Security Commission and the recommendations of international organizations, such as the ICAO and the ECAC.

Please consider the following explanations to fasten the security checkpoint processes.

Things You Should Consider When Passing Through the Terminal Entrance Security Checkpoint;

 

  • Do not hurry at security checkpoints.
  • Complying with the information and directions provided by the personnel at security checkpoints will facilitate your safe and fast passage.
  • Leave the items which can trigger the door detector's alarm (mobile phone, keys, coins, etc.) into plastic trays for X-ray device control.
  • Take off your belt, jacket, coat, blazer etc. at the X-Ray machine preparation table and place them in plastic trays.
  • Take laptops, cameras and large electronic devices out of their cases and place them in separate plastic trays.
  • There is no restriction on liquids (except dangerous liquids) at terminal entrances security checkpoints.
  • Make sure to take all your belongings before leaving the X-Ray device area.

Things You Should Consider When Passing Through Airside Security Checkpoints of Domestic and International Departure Areas;

 

  • Have passenger boarding pass (Boarding card) ready,
  • Do not hurry at security checkpoints.
  • Complying with the information and directions provided by the personnel at security checkpoints will facilitate your safe and fast passage.
  • Make sure that your cabin baggage does not contain liquids that are not in compliance with liquid restrictions.
  • Leave the items which can trigger the door detector's alarm (mobile phone, keys, coins, etc.) into plastic trays for X-ray device control.

 

  • Take off your belt, jacket, coat, blazer etc. at the X-Ray machine preparation table and place them in plastic trays.
  • Take laptops, cameras and large electronic devices out of their cases and place them in separate plastic trays.
  • Take the 1-liter transparent re-sealable bag enclosing containers with liquids (each up to 100 ml) out of your bag and place it in a separate plastic tray.
  • Make sure to take all your belongings before leaving the X-Ray device area.

Additional Information;

 

  • Walk through metal detectors/hand-held metal detectors pose no threat to our pregnant passengers. In case of doubt, you can ask for alternative search methods from the security officers without using the walk thorough metal detector.
  • Our guests who use wheelchairs and cardiac pacemakers will be checked using alternative search methods.
  • Our guests who have visible/invisible disabilities should notify the personnel on duty at the control point prior to the security check.
  • If you do not comply with the security checkpoint rules, you may not be allowed to pass through the security checkpoint.
  • Please contact the airline operator you are traveling with for detailed information related to lighters, batteries, etc., which are among the Items Prohibited in the Cabin, Security Restricted Areas, and the Flight Hold.
  • Items classified as prohibited at the security check-points include only the most common items and have only been specified for the purposes of giving a general idea. Potential items that are not on this list but can be used as weapons are also not permitted.

  • Certain items may be specified as "prohibited items", in line with the decisions of the airport security commission.
  • The Airline operator you are traveling with may refuse to carry items listed as "Prohibited" or any other items which are not included in this list on their aircraft.
  • Due to flight security, it is forbidden to carry lithium battery-operated personal vehicles such as hoverboards, mini-Segways, solowheels, airwheels, balance wheels etc. as cabin or checked (hold/registered) baggage.
  • According to International and National Legislations, firearms and other weapons, their components and ammunition must be submitted at the weapon submission desk located near the terminal entrance to the airline company with the necessary documentation. These items may not be carried unless submitted.
