December 04, 2023

4th November 2023: Flag carrier of the Kingdom of Thailand, Thai Airways International Public Company Limited (THAI), commenced flights to iGA Istanbul Airport on 2nd December 2023.

Underlining the target of reaching 100 airlines in honour of the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Türkiye, Mr Selahattin Bilgen, CEO of iGA Istanbul Airport, stated that THAI is the 99th airline company hosted at iGA Istanbul Airport, in a positive step towards reaching this millstone in 2023.

THAI, based at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi International Airport, confirmed that it will commence its direct flights to iGA Istanbul Airport which will be operated daily with 2-Class A350-900 with 321 seats. Flight TG900 will depart from Bangkok at 23:45 and arrive in Istanbul at 06:05 of the following day. Flight TG901 will depart from Istanbul at 16:30 and arrive in Bangkok at 05:35 following day.

THAI commenced operations in 1960 and is among the founding members of Star Alliance, the global airline alliance. Through its hub in Bangkok, Thai Airways seamlessly connects Europe with an extensive network across Asia Pacific, North Asia, Southeast Asia and Australia. The addition of daily direct flights from Bangkok to Istanbul will further compliment this seamless connectivity and in return, boost tourism in Türkiye and further cement iGA Istanbul Airport’s status as a global network hub of connectivity.

Speaking about the well-deserved pride of adding another airline to the airport’s extensive network, Mr Selahattin Bilgen commented: "We are pleased to welcome Thai Airways International, a Star Alliance member, to iGA Istanbul Airport. With Thai Airways joining us, we expect our global transfer hub to receive more passengers from Thailand, South Asia, and Australia, boosting tourism in Türkiye. Additionally, Thai Airways’ international passengers will be able to easily connect to Europe and Africa via Turkish Airlines broad and widened connection network.”

With the ability to already connect passengers to Domestic Turkiye, Asia, Africa and Europe, flying to 315 destinations across five continents, and with airport capacity capable of large growth, this new partnership between Thai Airways and iGA Istanbul Airport will only elevate and strengthen the hub’s strength of connectivity across the globe.
