Climate Change Adaptation and Emissions Management
We conduct our carbon management activities in line with the ISO 14064-1 Standard for the quantification and reporting of greenhouse gas emissions and removals at the organizational level. As a significant step, in 2019 we defined our 2050 Net Zero Carbon Roadmap in alignment with the IPCC 1.5°C targets.
We address the impacts of climate change on the aviation sector with a proactive approach, developing comprehensive strategies to ensure that our operations remain resilient to climate-related risks. To better understand and prepare for future climate conditions, we carry out analyses based on scientific data. In 2023, in collaboration with TÜBİTAK MAM, we launched the Istanbul Airport Climate Change Adaptation Action Plan Project. This initiative aims to conduct vulnerability and risk assessments of our operations using high-resolution, regional-scale climate simulations and to develop adaptation measures accordingly.
At iGA Istanbul Airport, we joined the ranks of climate-friendly airports in 2020 by meeting the requirements of the ACI Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) Program and obtaining Level 1 certification. Thanks to our focused and effective efforts, we successfully advanced our accreditation to Level 3 in 2022 and further to Level 4 in 2024.
To reduce our carbon footprint, we continue to actively implement IoT-based energy efficiency initiatives while also investing in renewable energy and the transition to electric vehicles. In addition, we carry forward afforestation activities designed to create carbon sinks as part of our long-term sustainability planning.
