Materials and Waste Management
We place great importance on local procurement and ethical principles in our material sourcing. To ensure effective communication with our suppliers and reduce emissions in logistics processes, we strive to maintain a high rate of local purchasing. Since the commencement of our operations, our local procurement rate has consistently exceeded 90%. Through our supplier monitoring and evaluation system, we prioritize suppliers who meet our defined requirements.
Looking ahead, we plan to take more concrete steps to make our sustainable procurement processes more systematic and to fully implement the criteria we have established.
Aligned with our “Zero Waste” goal, our waste management system is designed and implemented in cooperation with our airport stakeholders. While minimizing waste generation remains our primary objective, our system is built on waste segregation at the source. We support this process through four-compartment waste containers and temporary storage areas, and with our semi-automated waste separation facility at iGA Istanbul Airport—capable of processing 240 tons/day—we carry out final recycling operations.
Currently, one-third of our total waste is sent for recycling through licensed companies, while another one-third is directed to energy recovery facilities.
Through these efforts, iGA Istanbul Airport became the first airport in Türkiye to receive the Zero Waste Certificate.
