ARTWIST – From Waste to Art
January 20, 2020
iGA Istanbul Airport launched the ARTWIST Project with the aim of transforming waste into art through upcycling, while directing the proceeds to support vulnerable groups. The initiative began in 2019 with 100 tons of construction waste from the airport project, which artists repurposed in their studios to create unique works later exhibited to passengers.
In 2022, Professor Rahmi Atalay’s works “Eagle–Bull–Fish” were sold through an online auction, with all proceeds donated to KAÇUV, TESYEV, and ENEV.
By combining environmental sustainability with social impact, ARTWIST has become a remarkable example of how art can generate both cultural value and community benefit.
